A Note About Deadlines
Online registration is now closed. You may still register the day of the event starting at 8am.
For fundraisers: Online donations will be calculated as of 5pm, Friday, October 8. Online donations will still be accepted after that time, however the totals as of 5pm will be used to determine fundraising awards. Gifts of cash and check can be turned in during pre-registration, or at the registration table the morning of the event.
Race Day Reminders
Race for Research is this Saturday, and we look forward to seeing you soon. Here are a few reminders for the day:
- Registration and Check In: Opens at 8am and closes 5 minutes before race time.
- Race: 9am runners start, followed by the 5K- and 1-mile walkers.
Parking is available in lots 60 or 76. Signs will direct you to the start of the race location.
All participants must complete and sign a waiver. Please print and complete the waiver and turn it in at Registration.
The UW campus map provides a closeup view of the campus area and parking lots if you need some assistance in navigating to the location. You can also find additional driving directions and view a map on Google Maps.
Results for runners will be available at uwhealth.org/race following the event.

Get your friends and family, neighbors and coworkers and form a Team, or run on your own. And new this year - you can select the type of cancer research you would like your donations to support.
- Runners: $35 ($40 day of race)
- Walkers: $30 ($35 day of race)
About the Event
Carbone's Race for Research is a 5k run/walk to raise funds for new research initiatives at the UW Carbone Cancer Center, Wisconsin's only nationally designated comprehensive cancer center. The 5k is a timed event and runners will be chipped. Walkers can chose from a 1-mile family friendly route, or 5k route.
Awards will be given for the 1st place male and female runners, as well as the 1st and 2nd place teams.
Day-of Event Schedule
- Registration and Check-In: 8-9am
- 5k Run Starts: 9am
- 1-Mile and 5k Walk Starts: 9:05am
- Post-Run and Walk Celebration: 10:30am
Dogs and strollers are welcome. If running, those with dogs and strollers will be asked to start in the back. Dogs must be leashed.
The event starts and ends at the cul-de-sac between Nielsen Tennis Stadium and Goodman Softball Complex, 2602 Willow Drive (adjacent to UW Hospital and Clinics).
There are three options when you register - you can register as an individual, join an existing team, or create a new team with you at the helm. To get started, chose the "Register" button to the right and complete the requested information and payment.
You can also register additional family members and will be prompted to do so during the registration process. (Please note, if you complete registration and would like to go back and register additional family members, email firstname.lastname@example.org so we can assist in the process.)
A Few Notes About Participating
There will be accurate chip timing for the 5k run. Awards will be given for the 1st place male and female runners, and for the 1st and 2nd place teams.
A Signed Waiver is Required
A signed waiver is required to participate in the event. A link to the waiver will be sent in your registration confirmation email, or view and print the waiver (pdf). You can return the waiver at the Registration Table the morning of the run/walk.

Event Day Parking
Parking is free in the following locations:
- Lot 76, just east of the Nielsen Tennis Stadium
- Lot 60, just east of lot 76
- Lot 82, just east of the Waisman Center
Raise Funds to Support Cancer Research
When you register, you'll receive your own personal fundraising page where you can e-mail others, tell them why you are racing for cancer research and encourage them to support you and the cause. Friends and family can donate directly to you online by going here.
Individuals who raise more than $300 in online donations by September 25 will receive a special dry-fit runner shirt.
When you register as part of a team, each member of the team will have their own personal fundraising page in addition to the team page. Your page will show how much you raised as an individual and how much your team has raised totally.
All donations are tax deductible and will support pilot projects at UW Carbone Cancer Center.
