Chelsea Harris has always known that breast cancer is genetic. Several of her aunts have suffered from the disease, her grandmother died of breast cancer at 42, her mother was diagnosed in 2010, and two weeks after her 40th birthday, Chelsea was diagnosed as well. Now, her hope is to create a future for her daughter that is cancer-free. Watch her video

A new agreement between the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation and GE will bring a state-of-the-art imaging research facility to WIMR that may help make that kind of place a reality. Researchers at the UW Carbone Cancer Center have found that a single HPV protein is required for cervical cancer and even pre-cancer growths in the cervix to survive. The study is the first to show that the protein works in pre-cancerous growths as well as cervical cancer. Read more

- Oct. 19: 11th Annual Cancer Symposium: Putting the Puzzle Pieces Together - A day-long seminar about cancer and aging featuring experts from across the field
- Oct. 25: Restaino and Associates Halloween Party to Benefit UW Carbone Cancer Center - Costume party, live music and a silent auction to raise funds for cancer research
