The new UW Health Digestive Health Center on Madison’s west side will offer patients a more efficient and coordinated experience when it opens in April 2013. Construction is underway on the 67,000-square-foot outpatient clinic at Whitney Way and University Avenue. The facility will provide care for patients with disorders of the esophagus, stomach, colon, liver, gallbladder and pancreas. Read more

Dr. Mohamed H. Hamdan will join the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health as head of the division of cardiovascular medicine, effective July 1. Hamdan is an internationally recognized expert in cardiac arrhythmias, with a research focus on atrial fibrillation and the autonomic nervous system. He has published more than 65 research manuscripts and has authored 20 review articles and book chapters. Read more

Vascular surgeons from UW Health's Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Care group implanted a recently approved femoral artery stent into a patient who had developed a severe form of peripheral artery disease. It was the first time the stent was used in the state of Wisconsin, and UW Health vascular surgeon Jon Matsumura, MD, says it might have helped a patient avoid foot amputation. Read more
