A Special Anniversary: Kim's Story
Kim Lowery had Eisenmenger's Syndrome, a congenital disease that affects the heart. As she grew, her heart condition weakened her lungs to the point that her brother had to carry her from room to room because she was too weak to walk.
After years of skipping gym class, not being well enough to play at recess and missing out on activities as simple as a stroll with friends, Kim ultimately underwent a double-lung and heart transplant at UW Hospital and Clinics.
That was 20 years ago.

Kim is the 5th longest surviving organ transplant recipient in the U.S. As she explains, undergoing the transplant gave her 20 years she wouldn't have had. And they've been 20 very good years.
The power to change lives is in all of our hands. Right now in Wisconsin, nearly 2,000 individuals are on the waiting list for an organ transplant. In honor of Donate Life Month, if you're not already one of the more than one million on the online donor registry, sign up today.
